“Can I come in?” Jackenn called, as he knocked on the closed door to the surgery room, at the veterinary clinic. He puffed a breath, to dislodge the strand of russet hair from his eyes.

“Yes!”

At Davian's answer, he pushed the door open, relieved to find there was no surgery currently in progress. Jackenn slipped into the room and shut the door firmly behind him, before removing the test-tube from his pocket. “Here is the formula for Oleander,” he said, holding it while Davian stood washing his hands at a sink.

“Thank you! You are a life saver,” his uncle gushed, as he shut off the tap and turned to grab a cloth to dry his hands. “If I had not had to take control of this difficult surgery, I would have collected it myself,” he said, in apology.

There was no need. Jackenn had been heading to the hospital to say his goodbye's to Spencer, Jaycob and Averie. “I was happy to help,” he promised, waiting until Davian had dried his hands before handing over the vial. “Is Paulie still here?” he asked, unable to find him elsewhere.

“Yes. He is nursing a newborn wolf pup,” Davian replied with a fond smile, tipping his head towards the relevant door. Before Jackenn could react, his uncle cupped his chin with two fingers. “Are you nervous?”

There was no need to ask what he meant. Though he tried not to be, Jackenn felt inadequate for the task before him. Unworthy of the honour and afraid he would not be fit for the job. “I... I suppose it will be strange to be far from Paulie. We have never been separated before,” he confessed freely, as that was his greatest concern. He could feign confidence for the Scottish King, but he could not deny he worried about his twin remaining here, when he would be far away.

“I know it will be hard, but a lot of good will come from it,” Davian reassured, turning away to place the important test-tube into a protective wooden case. “Paulie is learning well and seems happy helping the animals. Do not limit your accomplishments. You have done well, learning from Prosper about politics and negotiations. You will be an excellent representative,” he said, proud and convinced, causing a flare of warmth in his chest.

“I know. And it is much more important that they go to Spain to prepare for Serafina's wedding,” Jackenn said, avoiding the praise to focus on what was important.

“Yes. That girl,” Davian tutted and leaned against the counter. “She may have changed her ways, when it comes to her behaviour, but she is still a princess at heart, and she wants a princess' wedding.”

Serafina had insisted on visiting every seamstress in the kingdom before they returned to Spain, wanting 'the best' for her wedding gown. “I still do not understand why it must be in Spain. Our family is by far the largest. Why should a few dozen of us travel to Spain, when the boy she is marrying has three family members?” he complained in confusion.
